The process of setting up a legal recreational marijuana system in Washington State continues to be hit with delays. It looks like the first marijuana stores in the state probably won’t open until July.

While Colorado’s recreational marijuana system has been up and fully running for two months now, things are moving a bit slower in Washington state. At a meeting on Wednesday the Washington State Liquor Control Board finally issued its very first license to produce and process recreational marijuana.

Of all the suggestions by the three state agencies to change Washington State’s medical marijuana laws after full legalization, the one that concerned me the most was the proposal to eliminate home growing for patients. I consider this change to be both misguided and premature at this time for three main reasons.

We have gotten our first look at what the labeling should be for all recreational marijuana sold in Washington State. The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB), which is responsible for implementing the newly approved Initiative 502, has just released its draft regulations for the legal marijuana market.

If you have questions about the new marijuana legalization law now that it is officially in effect in Washington State, the place to go is the Washington State Liquor Control Board. Initiative 502 put them in charge of both writing and enforcing the new regulations which will make the law function.

Now that voters in Washington State have approved Initiative 502 legalizing marijuana, the big question is what will the legal marijuana actually be like. The initiative gives the Washington State Liquor Control Board the job of regulating the new industry and they are going to be the prime source for answers. The WSLCB has created a new website to detail the implementation of the new law and a useful fact sheet explains what the law allows for.
