Responding to a court order the Obama Administration begrudgingly approved over-the-counter sales of Plan B or “the morning after pill” to ages 15 and up. But the court order required all ages to have access to the medicine.

The coverage of the brutal crimes unveiling the pro-rape culture in India (and the women’s movement rising to oppose it), is welcome information to bring to Americans. While I’m sure a lot of people would like to think a gang-rape and beating on a bus is something so violent and savage that it couldn’t occur here, we need a reminder, that in the United States, some of our young men are being raised to believe that they can indeed take a woman of any age and use her as a personal sex toy, a piece of refuse to violate at will, with tacit approval by people in purported leadership roles in society.

Yesterday was the final day that Todd Akin could take himself off the Missouri Senate ballot. But I think the national Republicans who desperately wanted this to happen gave up on the idea long ago. Clearly Akin marches to his own beat, and wouldn’t be swayed even by the cutoff of funds. Some conservative movement members have slowly been inching their way back into the race, with Newt Gingrich campaigning with Akin this week, and Jim DeMint’s PAC likely to send him some money.

And both the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress are in the midst of a full-court press to let everyone know about it.

This is my story of getting an abortion in Texas, of my rights being exercised. Even with the laws in place to convince me otherwise, I still made the right decision no matter how much it hurt. I believe I have the right to go through this painful experience without paternalistic intervention “for my own good” as I am solely responsible for myself and my body.
