DC’s Likely Future Mayor Muriel Bowser Supports Marijuana Legalization

The District of Columbia should soon have a pro-marijuana legalization mayor. On Tuesday night D.C. council member Muriel Bowser easily beat incumbent Mayor Vincent Gray in the crowded Democratic mayorial primary. Bowser now goes on to the general election.

The penalty for the possession of a small amount of marijuana in the District of Columbia may soon be the same as a parking ticket. Over the past two days the DC council held hearings on a bill that would decriminalize marijuana in the district.

This November the voters in our nation’s capital will likely have the opportunity to ban campaign donations by corporations to local politicians. The Group D.C. Public Trust recently turned in over 30,000 signature to get their initiative on the ballot this year.
