Here’s the central aspect of the Rmoney Presidential Campaign: he and his rich cronies need the American people, engaging our vaunted short-term memory, to forget all about the global depredation and financial collapse of the Bush Years. Mitt’s rebranded the GOP to be all about a Businessman President, who’s Compassionate Yet Principled, who will deregulate America to get bureaucrats out of the way of entrepreneurs and Big Bidness. Also: taxcuts!

You all know I’m a relentless gossip about the Veepstakes, which is sadly diminished this year from last cycle by 50% because Uncle Joe went all Super-Ghey on Barack, making it impossible to kick him out of his Observatory Circle digs without incurring the wrath of and enraging the Lavender Dems, David Geffen and other wealthy Gays Who Bundle (heh).
But the GOP Veepstakes are rich this year.

Now we see one of the reasons the Senate is including student loans in reconciliation — they don’t want to tax rich people (as the House does), so they’re stealing the money from community colleges.
The most economically vulnerable are having their futures hacked away to pay AHIP a 20% fee for doing nothing in the health care process. And Ben Nelson hasn’t even begun shaking the bill down for Nelnet, JP Morgan and Citigroup.
