I think I was traumatized at a young age being ‘subjected to’ the movie The Wizard of Oz, I never liked that movie what with the flying monkeys and all (loved the books tho!). I figure that’s why I grew up terrified of tornadoes, even tho I didn’t live anywhere near Kansas.

Every night, the evening news shows us the destruction and deaths wrought by another example of Mother Nature’s wrath, as though every one is an entirely unrelated event. And the next story moves, without connection, to the debates in Congress, in which the Administration and dodo Congressional leaders haggle over contrived non-problems and positions oblivious to what’s happening in the real world.

The communities that have been destroyed by the financial tornadoes are no less devastated than those destroyed by natural tornadoes, and the toll on the people is no less heartbreaking. The financial tornadoes didn’t roll through in a single night, but wreaked their destruction slowly over time. And they continue to spin out of control.

President Obama visited Alabama today and walked through the wreckage, noting “I’ve never seen devastation like this.” He promised federal help. Well, Mr. President, you and Congress need to get out more and take a close look at the rest of America.
