Proposition 8 was built with deliberate lies that Maggie Gallagher, Tony Perkins, Peter Sprigg, and the rest of those pushing it were too fearful to defend in court. But none of these people had the guts to stand up in court, take an oath, and attest to the veracity of the claims they made regarding what allegedly would happen should marriage equality become legal in California, because they knew that the lawyers attacking the law – David Boies and Ted Olson – would call them out and reveal their deception.

James Dobson’s slam on Newt Gingrich at the recent behind-closed-doors meeting of evangelical Christian leaders grabbed a lot of attention in the press, but no one seems to remember that these two have a past. In 2007, Gingrich went on Dobson’s radio program to confess his history of marital infidelity, and received the blessing of numerous TheoCon leaders for doing so.

Now, though, Dobson appears to have led the charge against Gingrich in that meeting of religious conservatives. Is Dobson repenting for having given Gingrich a platform to try to rebuild in image back in 2007?

Tony Perkins is not genuine himself. Tony Perkins lies. Tony Perkins hates. Why does CNN provide him op-ed space to blather about Values nowadays, as if his opinion is important and valuable to GOP primary voters?

Nothing is more delicious than the sweet, sweet taste of right-wing bitterness. And in the wake of yesterday’s historic civil rights victory for gays, the reaction across wingnuttia has been tasty to watch.

Of course the guy wanted to give you a rug, Mike. You were there with Blackhawk helicopters, having closed the market to all but your security detail, and were accompanied by the man who might (possibly) be the next President of the United States.

And if your religion can’t stop Satan or the Devil or El Diablo or whatever magical evil force you’ve conjured to frighten the rubes — well, neither can Mr Law. Listen up, unenlightened ones: YOUR FEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH.

My sense has always been that the Teabagger crowd is more glibertarian than fundie, but these comments from the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins–one of the most important right-wing Christian leaders in the Bush/Rove GOP coalition–indicate a real hostility brewing.
