The UK newspaper The Independent published a story on a secret Middle East-based intelligence station, claiming some of the information for the story was contained in the leaked documents obtained from the NSA by Edward Snowden. The problem, according to Glenn Greenwald, is that Snowden denies ever talking to The Independent and being a source for the story. The story is likely to be damaging to UK and US interests in the region.

Reading Dial M for Murdoch by Tom Watson and Martin Hickman gave me the same feel as watching the movie Apollo 13. I knew the ending. I knew some broad strokes. News of the World, a Murdoch paper, got caught hacking the phone of a missing girl, they got busted. Some cops were involved, News International got caught covering it up and decided to shut down News of the World. People were paid off, some Murdoch executives went to jail, some powerful political aids and police resigned and then Murdoch got a pie in the face while testifying.

We finally have the documentary proof showing the important role oil companies played in the lead up to the war in Iraq. I hope it doesn’t take another eight years before we get documented proof about what a huge role oil played in the decision to launch a kinetic military action in Libya.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has told the Huffington Post she expects a “serious drawdown” of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2011. The House Rules Committee has now approved an amendment for consideration on the war supplemental that will allow Speaker Pelosi to “put her money where her mouth is.”
