On Christmas Eve, a US drone attacked a vehicle and killed at least two suspected al Qaeda militants in the southern Bayda province of Yemen. The attack happened in the early evening in the country. It was believed a “mid-level al Qaeda Yemeni operative,” Abdel-Raouf Naseeb, was one of the men killed. It was the first strike in Yemen in 47 days, according to The Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Organizations Tracking Drone Strike Deaths Provide Flawed or Incomplete Data |

Students and staff at the Human Rights Clinic at the Columbia Law School have released a report examining tracking organizations’ estimates on drone strikes by the United States. The clinic’s systematic review found reports often rely on unnamed Pakistani government officials or unnamed witnesses. The organizations were all “hampered methodologically and practically.” They “consistently underestimated the potential number of civilians killed in Pakistan during the year 2011.”

Triple drone attacks in Pakistan reportedly killed more than twelve people who were suspected of being “militants” or terror suspects. Nine were killed in an initial attack on a “militant compound” in Miranshah in North Waziristan. Three more were killed in a second attack while people were trying to “recover dead bodies.” A third strike killed at least one more, according to the Agence France Presse news agency.
The attacks come just as Pakistan and the US are set to meet in Tokyo
