Just to follow up on this tax return issue that is playing havoc with Mitt Romney’s Presidential campaign, it turns out that the returns he claimed to have fully disclosed were not fully disclosed. He left out the part that describes the role of his Swiss bank account.

I’ve watched with some bemusement this saga over Mitt Romney’s tax returns, which is now threatening to define the entire 2012 campaign. Romney has been running for President since 2006. Any remote sense of intelligence would have signaled to put the financial house in order at that time and lighten up on any aggressive tax avoidance, however legal. So six years of returns should be relatively painless. And yet, Romney continues to stonewall any requests for release of the documents

It takes the offer of amnesty to get rich people to reveal their offshore bank accounts. Finally, after years of neglect, the IRS has actually bothered to look into all this. But they had to assure the oligarchs that they wouldn’t be prosecuted for tax evasion, of course.

National People’s Action, one of the more aggressive progressive advocacy groups, has been deeply involved in street protests against foreclosure fraud and corporate greed. And today, they escalated those actions. 600 activists with NPA took over a DC branch of Bank of America today, handing over a “tax bill” to the large banking institution that they believe has cost states billions through tax avoidance and reckless speculation.

The incredibly rich aren’t like you and me, they don’t need to worry about breaking the law. . . because the I.R.S. is now handing out amnesty like candy.
