Sunday Talking Heads: July 20, 2014

¡Buenos Dias!

Jane Hamsher and Kevin Gosztola are at the Hope X Conference in NYC this weekend. Here’s today’s schedule, there are video and audio feeds to follow along, and also the twitter.

As for the Sunday shows, Secretary of State John Kerry does the Full Ginsburg this week, he’s everywhere.

THE big topic is the shootdown of Flight MH17, and some coverage of Gaza, plus a touch of the refugee children massing at the border ready to rid America of her freedoms. Cecile Richards is on with Bill Moyers, and Susie Madrak’s with Jay Ackroyd on Virtually Speaking. See you later this afternoon for FDL’s Book Salon, Strike Back: Using the Militant Tactics of Labor’s Past to Reignite Public Sector Unionism Today.

Good morning.

Movie Night Monday is all about the beer.

The Sunday talk fests focus on Iraq and ISIS as well as immigration reform or lack thereof. Except for coverage on Religion & Ethics there doesn’t appear to be any quests scheduled to discuss the Supreme Court cases decided this week, like Burwell v. Hobby Lobby or even the union decision of Harris v. Quinn.

C-SPAN’s Washington Journal trots out one more climate denier, more wasted air time spent “debating” that which there is no debate about.

After what will surely be an unremarkable discussion of war fighting with Senators Graham and McCain, Bob Schieffer is hosting an interesting roundtable of authors, if you’re looking for summer reads.

Who needs more coffee?

It’s morningtime! Get up and smell the coffee — and the roses.

FDL’s Book Salon will be Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-First Century, but without Thomas Piketty – this time. Masaccio and Knut team up for the discussion. And Movie Night Monday will be the New Orleans-based Getting Back to Abnormal.

Peterr wonders why the Sunday morning bookers couldn’t get any of these people on to discuss missing administration emails…

Good morning everyone.

When dakine01 saw the listings last night, he replied:

“Day-uhm! The competition is fierce what with The Clinton Guy Shocked by Blowjobs having a wake for Eric Cantor, Senator Huckleberry J Butchmeup doing a two-faced dance with CBS and CNN, Faux Noise being its norm but Disco Dave’s Dance Party must really be trying to make up for having reasonable shows the past few weeks with that lineup of halfwits and full twits.”

Can’t argue with that. But do join Kevin Kosztola with Clark Stoeckley this afternoon for Book Salon to talk about Stoeckley’s visual reporting from the Chelsea Manning trial. His distinct courtroom drawings helped bring the trial outside the courtroom. And Monday evening Lisa Derrick brings Dave Tourjé in to talk about his art and the film L.A. Aboriginal.

Good Morning everybody, I hope it’s bright and sunny where you are, but if it is raining, think how happy your tomatoes are.

There’s no Book Salon this week, but Monday’s movie night is an Oscar quality crime drama, In the Shadow. Joan McCarter and Dave Johnson will be Virtually Speaking this evening, looks like an interesting show.

As for the network shows, two words:

A great deal of time this morning will be devoted to the VA scandal, particularly in light of Gen. Eric Shinseki’s resignation as head of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Also a big topic is President Obama’s speech at the West Point commencement this week. National Security Advisor Susan Rice appears on a couple shows so there will probably be a BENGHAZI question or two as well.

Book Salon today is Hemp Bound with our friend Doug Fine, hosted by our good friend ET. I like the idea. And Movie Night Monday is a roadtrip in Volkswagen Buses, Circle the Wagens. Please join us.

And please help us keep the lights on.

Sunday Talking Heads: May 25, 2014

Good morning! Memorial Day weekend already, summer is here.

This week the attention is on the VA scandal and Ukraine, and an emphasis on Memorial Day. And not unexpectedly there’s some Horse Race 2016 going on. Bill Moyers interviews Ta-Nehisi Coates about his The Case for Reparations, Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole. Have you read it? If not, do.
