After Sowing the Wind, Cardinal Dolan Is Reaping the Whirlwind

After the invitation went out to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to speak at the annual “Al Smith Dinner” — a huge Roman Catholic charitable fundraiser in New York City, Cardinal Timothy Dolan has been getting slammed by the Catholic right wing. Given how the USCCB has been ratcheting up the rhetoric against Democrats (especially Roman Catholic Democrats) for years, no one should be surprised at this reaction. As the prophet said, those who sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind.

I hope Cardinal Dolan likes the breeze.


Conservative Appeals Court Stays Stem Cell Research Decision

Via Think Progress, a three-judge panel of the DC Appeals Court has put a stay on Judge Royce Lamberth’s preliminary injunction against all federally-funded stem cell research. This means that research will be allowed to continue while the court case makes its way through the process.

Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Federal Funding for Stem Cell Research

Seemingly seeing the dearth of things to talk about this week, a federal judge has decided to issue a preliminary injunction blocking federal funding for stem cell research on the grounds that it forces the destruction of human embryos.

Adult stem cell researchers filed the suit back in June against the Obama Administration’s executive order on stem cell policy, allowing for federal funding. President George W. Bush banned most stem cell funding except on existing stem cell lines in August 2001.
