Americans Want Feds Out of State Marijuana Legalization

By: Thursday April 4, 2013 1:17 pm

The part of the new Pew Research poll showing majority support for marijuana that may have the biggest impact in the short term is the section that shows Americans overwhelmingly want the federal government to leave new marijuana legalization alone.

La Figa Holiday Gift Guide: Celebrate Krampus with Community-Focused and Socially Conscious-Themed Gifts

By: Friday December 14, 2012 2:50 pm

Gifts should reflect the giver’s awareness of recipient, and carry a bit of the giver’s personality. Practical, thoughtful, and thought-provoking are also important attributes. And because this is Firedoglake, a healthy dose of social consciousness never hurts.

Top of my list: FDL’s Free Bradley Manning t-shirt (there’s also an awesome sweatshirt). I ordered one for a friend as a Thanksgiving gift, and he loved it, and I have one myself. The cotton is soft, the design is super cool, and you’re helping to support Manning’s trial coverage and activism.

Want to give a group gift, say for the whole family or your office? Occupy Sandy desperately needs Tyvek suits to protect those who are cleaning up mold damage in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. Or consider supplying Occupy with the FDL Occupy Supply items.

Santorum’s America: No Birth Control but Lots of Free Money for Babies

By: Tuesday January 3, 2012 4:15 pm

With Rick Santorum poised to do well in Iowa today and perhaps play at least a barely-plausible role as an anti-Romney challenger for the GOP nomination, it’s worth looking for a moment at his priorities. He wants expanded credits to encourage more kids, and he wants states to ban contraceptives. As Paul says, he’s the liberal.

With Health Reform Not Yet Law, “Repeal the Bill” Movement Begins

By: Monday March 22, 2010 1:40 pm

Before health care was signed into law, House and Senate Republicans released bills calling for its full repeal. It’ll be amusing to watch these have the same legislative chances as liberal bills not favored by the establishment for years, but get outsized attention and influence.
