This is a post about Homeland, season 4 episode one, part one titled ”Drone Queen.” This is chock full of spoilers, but it’s not a recap or review, more of a starting point to talk about issues that strike me. If you haven’t watched the episode and intend to, scroll on by.

Why is it that ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN thought that the politician America needed to hear from this week was Newt Gingrich, a candidate who’s been thoroughly rejected by all by the most delusional and extreme Republican voters and has no chance of becoming President? Even if it hadn’t been a ghastly week, with Republican icons insulting women and degrading the national discourse while the GOP leadership and Presidential candidates hid, the idea of giving the man who has spent 20 years contributing to our declining politics yet another national platform would be inexcusable for any supposedly news entity.
Every viewer knows that any interview of Newt Gingrich usually results in an uninterrupted commercial for himself, his lies, and his fantasies. With a weak interviewer like ABC’s George Stephanopoulus, that means we get 10 minutes of misrepresentations, misdirection and evasions with little or no pushback, leaving the audience either frustrated or more misinformed than they were before.

The Pentagon wants you to ignore some inconvenient facts about the failure of the escalation strategy in Afghanistan.
The latest Petraeus/Gates media tour is under way in preparation for the general’s testimony to Congress next week, and they’re trotting out the same, tired spin they’ve been using since McChrystal was replaced in disgrace last year.

As noted below, the Koch Bros are sparing no expense in hiring the best and brightest to spin away their malignant drive to destroy the world for profit. Besides the best and the brightest, the Kochs have, once again, retained Nancy Pfotenhauer to lie her pfucking ass off. Through the miracle of YourInterTubes, there is extensive historical video documentation of Nancy allowing herself to be publicly humiliated to the point where even professional bukkake models have been known to avert their eyes.

The Pentagon’s public relations machine is working overtime these days trying to sell a theme of “progress” in Afghanistan to push back against calls to end the war. The message machine behind this push is gargantuan, costing $547 million and employing more than 27,000 people. But, as our latest Rethink Afghanistan video shows, all that wasted P.R. money can’t paper over the fact that the Afghanistan War isn’t making us safer, and it’s not worth the cost.

If President Obama is too weak to preserve our civilian-military order, then Congress is obligated to enforce its Constitutional authority over the power of war.
