When the weather turns cold, I crave hot soups, and while there are a lot of prepared kinds that I am happy just to heat up, every now and then a fresh home-made variety calls out for your time and trouble.

I thought we’d do something a little different this Sunday, to honor the soup specially cooked up for me — that seems to have knocked back my winter cold within a week! Which would be a record for me and any cold. That chicken-noodle aroma filled our entire apartment, so I soaked in it for about six hours before I actually got to eat it on Monday night.

Remember last week when we learned how to make stock? Today, in honor of the bowl games, we’ll be having a bowl of our own. We’re going to take the stock and make soup with it — creamy mushroom soup, in fact.
