I’ve seen thousands of politicians in my time, I’ve seen them sell their souls for power, I’ve had to listen to their lies ever since the Gulf of Tonkin and I don’t want to hear any more.

If I had to sum up the State of the Union speech in one phrase it would be: executive action. The core line of the speech for me seemed to be, “Some require Congressional action, and I’m eager to work with all of you. But America does not stand still – and neither will I. So wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Tonight, during the State of the Union address, President Obama will likely drone on about how he thinks wealth inequality is an important issue. And the polls show Americans agree, the economy is polling as the number one issue while an increasingly number of Americans no longer identify as middle class. These concerns come amidst one of the worst labor markets in American history with an anemic workforce participation rate and record poverty.
The state of the union is weak.

It was a relief to hear more than a passing reference to climate change in President Obama’s State of the Union Speech, including promises of more support for wind and solar power. But the oil industry heard nothing to even cause even a smidgen of concern.

In a video that was designed to go live around the time of President Obama’s State Of the Union, the NRA asserted that the ultimate goal of the Obama Administration’s gun control policies was to confiscate guns.

During last night’s State Of The Union President Obama addressed an issue he has long ignored during his presidency – climate change. Unfortunately his statement was contradictory and confusing.

While President Obama dedicated a significant portion of his State of the Union speech to deficit reduction is not totally unexpected, it is truly disappointing. Not only did Obama spend more time on the deficit than on any other issue, but he placed it at the begin of the speech and effectively labeled it the top priority.

At tonight’s State of the Union address, the president will likely touch on the social safety net and the need for a “grand bargain” to reduce the deficit. While we were able to push the president away from reducing medicare benefits for the elderly, it appears we have more work to do to communicate that Chained-CPI — which steadily reduces your earned Social Security benefits as you age — is unacceptable, too.
