As a black girl, the act of maintaining the belief that you rock given the influx of media depictions that suggest otherwise, and the implication of all the places that couldn’t manage to find one black girl who was good enough to make the cut- or couldn’t be bothered to mention any of the black girls who had done similar work– is a perpetual bummer.

Kerry Washington, who’ll be guest hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow, is a smart, warm, and wise woman who understands the media and gossip rags as well as, if not better than, her character on Scandal, spin doctor Olivia Pope. In an interview with the Advocate, Washington spoke about her commitment to equality and civil rights, and addressed the rumors circulating about her:
“It’s interesting how much people long to fill in the gaps when someone in the public eye doesn’t share their personal life. I understand their frustration. I like how people will post pictures of me with other women that I adore, hugging on red carpets, and say, “See?” “

It’s just been announced that Kerry Washington- star of the wildly popular ABC show Scandal as well as leading lady in movies that include The Last King of Scotland and Ray- has been tapped to host Saturday Night Live this November.
The decision was made weeks ago but the announcement comes at a point when the show’s cast has been engaged in a public discussion about its lack of black female cast members.

During last night’s “Your Interview with the President” event sponsored by Google+, President Obama and Google completely and shamefully ignored the dominant questions — about marijuana — submitted by the American people. Questions about marijuana policy reform dominated almost all of the top “most popular question” slots, but Obama ignored them.

Every living cast member of Saturday Night Live who played one of the US Presidents appeared in a video directed by Ron Howard, urging President Obama (in this case Fred Armisen) to push for a standalone Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
