It’s a moment of transition in the post-Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell era. There is still work to be done to bring the lives of LGB service members to parity with their straight colleagues when it comes to civil rights. It is a bold and insightful decision for the organization, in its appointment of Allyson Robinson, to show that the mission for equality is just beginning for transgender service members and Outserve-SLDN is ready to continue making strides and history.

On Sunday Lady Gaga went to the Video Music Awards with former members of the armed service who left/were discharged over Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and who are part of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.
Today Lady Gaga tweeted her nearly 7 million followers and asked them to call Harry Reid and schedule a Senate vote on the repeal of DADT. Reid must have gotten the messages. He responded via Twitter.

By the end of this week, we should know whether Congress will make a play to end the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy on gay service members, or whether they’ll allow continued discrimination in our nation’s armed forces.
