The Washington Post’s Matt Miller doesn’t get it. Forcing austerity on the states would have the EXACT SAME EFFECT as the budget cuts they have to make in the absence of state aid. States already have rigorous budgeting constraints due to not being able to print money and run deficits. They really don’t need any more.

An editorial in Friday’s New York Times advocates for Hamid Karzai to hand over responsibility for economic redevelopment of Afghanistan from the United Nations to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Such a move would do nothing more than complete the rape of Afghanistan by the west and institute policies that Naomi Klein documented in The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.

Meet their victim of the month, Westside Water District: half the size of Connecticut, laden with farmers who get triple Federal subsidies (crop, water, electricity), and in hock to us all for $480 million.
