Facebook Says “Jewish Ritual Murder” Page Is Not Hate

With over gajillion users, and as useful tool of law enforcement, the NSA, marketers, cats and their humans, Facebook is a huge part of everyday life, and fraught with complex social rules and seemingly arbitrary community standards. Usually Facebook’s actions don’t affect me personally, but pro-dog fighting pages will get me riled up, and Facebook censoring art, legitimate journalism and editorials ticks me off. Especially when they ban a journalist (full disclosure: who happens to be my housemate), for posting a link to photo essay about drug abuse which (oh noes!) shows a naked breast in a non-porny context, and when Facebook takes down a post calling out racism in the Academy Awards process as a violation of community standards, yet allow an absolutely vile page about “Jewish ritual murder” to stay up.

Wednesday evening, actress Scarlett Johansson brought the nine-day dilemma over the conflict between her seven-year relationship with the global relief organization, Oxfam, and her new commercial relationship with the Israeli company, SodaStream, to a conclusion.
