Heading into the Wisconsin and Maryland primaries tomorrow Mitt Romney holds a solid lead over Rick Santorum in both states according to Public Policy Polling. In Wisconsin Romney leads by seven, and in Maryland he leads by a very impressive 25 points. Tomorrow’s primaries could be very bad news for Rick Santorum.

How did it come to be that what once was the Party of Lincoln is now the Party of David Duke and Strom Thurmond? It was a simple business calculation — Corporate America and rich people in general wanted to get out of paying the taxes needed to sustain our societal infrastructure, and they figured the best way to do that was to manipulate race hatreds among whites in order to convince them that societal infrastructure helped black people more than white people.
It succeeded very well in cutting the taxes on the rich and on corporations, but that success came at the price of poisoning the minds of the Republicans, from the lowliest grunt worker to elite-level opinion controllers like Noonan and Carlson, with the deep-set sickness of bigotry.

Rick Santorum is trailing Mitt Romney significantly in Wisconsin, according to a new poll by Marquette Law School. The poll has Romney up by eight points a week out from the April 3rd primary. For Santorum to have even a slim chance of winning the nomination, he needs something to shake up the race and change the current trajectory that has Romney securing the nomination. He needs to prove he can start beating Romney outside of the bible belt, including states like Wisconsin.

Slowly and reluctantly the Republican base is finally starting to line up behind Mitt Romney now that he is almost assured to (eventually) get the nomination. According to a Gallup daily tracking poll of the primary, Romney now has the support of 40% of the base, his highest level of support yet.
