I am used to reading completely crazy, sex-obsessed things from Peter LaBarbera, or junk science from hate group leader Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council. But in 2012, Clown Car candidate Rick Santorum has ushered in an impressive and visible new era of religious right/junk science/insane statements that suggests the Republican Party either cannot or will not deal with the basic political realities going on in this nation.

In almost every new national poll Rick Santorum performs just about as well as Mitt Romney in a hypothetical general election match up against President Obama. The new national polls out today from AP/GfK and Qunnipiac both have Romney performing only a single point better than Santorum in the general election.

At the very least it looks like Mitt Romney will secure one win next Tuesday, in Arizona. Next week has GOP primaries in Michigan and Arizona. While polling indicates there is a decent chance Rick Santorum could win Michigan, all the recent polling of Arizona shows Romney with the lead.

Once upon a time not so very long ago and a place right close by, there was a land conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men were created equal. Now, reality is, this land was never really the shining city upon a hill as some folks liked to claim but even with all of its problems, it still managed to make the phrases “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free” enough substance to be a bit more than a slogan on a statue.

Billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who has already injected over $10 million into helping Newt Gingrich become President, told Forbes that he could easily spend $100 million this year on influencing politics. Having elections heavily impacted by the whims of a few billionaires is a horrible way to run a democracy. Even the billionaires currently exploiting it admit it is a horrible system, but that hasn’t stopped them from choosing to exploit it.

While Mitt Romney’s polling numbers have started to improve in Michigan, Rick Santorum’s national lead continues to grow. Santorum now holds a 10 point national lead over Romney according to Gallup Daily Tracking poll. Santorum is at 36 percent and Romney is at 26 percent. In addition Newt Gingrich has continued his slide down to just 13 percent support, slightly above Ron Paul.

Following his triple win, last week Rick Santorum surged into a clear lead in the Michigan primary. But over the past few days Mitt Romney has managed to recover some of his lost ground. According to two new polls of the state Romney has made substantial gains on Santorum’s lead and may even be ahead.
