Are we a democracy or are we some poorly written Saturday Night Live sketch parody of a democracy? It is getting harder and harder to tell.

With some many debates in the Republican primary this year the impact anyone has is often extremely small, but there is always the potential a debate can matter if a single moment from it goes viral. A memorable line or terrible gaffe could end up being the 30 second clip that epitomizes some large dynamic in the race and as a result is aired over and over on on the news and Internet.

A new poll of Republican and GOPd-leaning voters shows Mitt Romney now has a plurality of them seeing Mitt as the candidate most likely to beat Obama. A previous poll showed Rich Perry ahead. But Mitt’s plurality is still not strong.

President Obama has requested a joint session of Congress to address them on the issue of jobs creation. The time he chose for this speech is September 7th at 8 pm, which happens to be the exact same time as the next Republican Presidential primary debate.

It is always kind of sad when someone who thinks they are a big ass kicker writes a column trying to be tough but coming off whinny. Marc Thiessen’s column in the Washington Post today is a perfect example.

It is hard to read the tea leaves sometimes, but when a major Republican crosses his party on Ryancare, then his campaign staff quit, well that is not that tough to read.

The news for Mitt Romney has been pretty good lately; he leads the Republican presidential field in the the latest Gallup poll of the race.

The Quitter is causing quite a stir with reports that she’ll be releasing a $1 million-dollar hagiography in Iowa, just in time for the caucuses. And based on early reviews, it appears that at some point, God instructed her to drive the English from Fairbanks.

The recent Gallup poll found not only that the overwhelming majority of Americans think it is time to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, but even among Republicans there is an even split between those who say withdraw and those who think we should stay. Theoretically, this should create a potential opening for an anti-war Republican presidential primary candidate.
