It seems that Liberty University’s Mat Staver’s recent testimony in front of a Congressional committee has become more than he bargained for.

Consider this: In over three decades, anti-gay groups have built a powerful apparatus of lies via junk science, horror anecdotes and cherry-picked science (mostly from the Centers of Disease Control) which have painted the lgbt community as diseased, overly aggressive zombies who want to destroy Christianity while recruiting children. They don’t even have to create new stories. They can go back to that old framework continuously. It’s like a virus which recreates itself every time it’s destroyed.

The anti-gay group Concerned Women for America is furious at the National Women’s History Museum Project. The group is especially angry that there is no mention of religious right activists, particularly its founder, Beverly LaHaye.

This so-called culture war over lgbt equality is so immersed in the religious angle and the “personal story” angle that there is scarcely attention paid to how anti-gay groups make attempts at either distorting scientific research or relying on junk science in order to denigrate the lgbt community.

Hawaii’s First Assembly of God churches are so opposed to the passage of a marriage equality law during a special legislative session next month that they’re not only dedicating their main webpage to this political issue (right), they’re lying about the proposed new law’s effects on their institution.

Bryan Fischer is a homophobe of the highest order, but he is also the host of a radio program in which many members of Congress have come on as guests.

In 1997, metal music was pretty much over–grunge had killed it. But that year, Pat Boone released In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy, his white bread covers of metal music. It was his first hit album in 35 years. It also pissed off a lot of people because metal was supposed to be the music of SATAN and Pat Boone was an evangelical with a television program on Trinity Broadcast Network, Gospel America. After an appearance wearing black leather and studs on the American Music Awards, clad in his metal garb, he was fired from Gospel America.

Times must still be tough for Nic Cage. He’s offered himself up to
God the Left Behind movie series, and it’s really kinda gross. Well, maybe there are some gross points involved, though I wouldn’t hold my breath on the Academy Award-winning actor getting rich off those.

Orson Scott Card is the homo-hatin’ author of Ender’s Game who is also a producer of and presumably profit-taker from the eponymous film due out in November from Lions Gate. He has proven himself to be an equal opportunist disliker of non-white people and a loony-toon nutter in this May 9, 2013 essay, originally published in something called The Rhinoceros Times. Card spins a paranoid (admitted) fantasy about Obama becoming a dictator.

One thing to learn about religious right organizations and their supporters is that they always repeat a lie no matter how many times it has been refuted. In fact, they even apply the lie to new situations.
