WIPP Still Leaks

By: Sunday July 6, 2014 5:45 pm

Environmental radiation releases spiked again in mid-June around the surface site of the only U.S. underground, nuclear weapons waste storage facility near Carlsbad, New Mexico. The facility, the Waste Isolation Pilot Project (WIPP), has been shut down since February 14, when its isolation technology failed, releasing unsafe levels of Plutonium, Americium, and other radio-nuclides into the environment around the site.

Fukushima’s Children Are Dying

By: Saturday June 14, 2014 12:30 pm

Physicians for Social Responsibility and the German International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War have issued a ten-point rebuttal to the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) report, warning the public of the UN’s compromised credibility. The disaster is “ongoing” say the groups, and must be monitored for decades. “Things could have turned for the worse” if winds had been blowing toward Tokyo rather than out to sea (and towards America).

SNAFUkushima: Updating Meltdowns

By: Saturday May 31, 2014 7:59 am

Radioactive water has flowed from the Fukushima complex into the Pacific Ocean continuously since March 11, 2011. The flow rate varies, most likely, but no one knows what the rate is and there is no reliable system in place to measure the flow. There is also no reliable system in place to measure the intensity of the radiation, which also most likely varies.

Teen Scientist Receives Glowing Review of Science Project about Glowing Seaweed

By: Saturday April 5, 2014 7:52 am

A Canadian teen has shamed the Canadian Government by exhibiting greater concern for her fellow Albertans than the state when, as part of a science fair project, she demonstrated that imported seafood found in local grocery stores has dangerously high levels of radiation.

FDL Book Salon Welcomes David Lochbaum, Susan Q. Stranahan, Fukushima: The Story of a Nuclear Disaster

By: Saturday March 8, 2014 1:59 pm

David Lochbaum, Edwin Lyman, Susan Q. Stranahan and the Union of Concerned Scientists examine this question carefully in the long shadow of Fukushima Daiichi. The book contains both a gripping narrative of the nuclear accidents at Fukushima three years ago and a careful examination of the relationships between the nuclear industry and its regulators in Japan, especially as viewed from an American perspective, and as replayed on the American stage. The authors are experts in these matters and the writing is terrific.

Toll Mounts Among U.S. Sailors Devastated by Fukushima Radiation

By: Saturday January 11, 2014 12:45 pm

The roll call of U.S. sailors who say their health was devastated when they were irradiated while delivering humanitarian help near the stricken Fukushima nuke is continuing to soar.

Japan’s Deadly New ‘Fukushima Fascism’

By: Wednesday December 11, 2013 6:25 pm

Fukushima continues to spew out radiation. The quantities seem to be rising, as do the impacts.

The site has been infiltrated by organized crime. There are horrifying signs of ecological disaster in the Pacific and human health impacts in the U.S.

But within Japan, a new State Secrets Act makes such talk punishable by up to ten years in prison.

The Disaster at Fukushima Gets Even Worse

By: Saturday August 10, 2013 11:40 am

Just when it seemed things might be under control at Fukushima, we find they are worse than ever. Immeasurably worse.

Massive quantities of radioactive liquids are now flowing through the shattered reactor site into the Pacific Ocean. And their make-up is far more lethal than the “mere” tritium that has dominated the headlines to date.
