Boehner Shuts Down Peter King Gun Control Legislation

By: David Dayen Wednesday January 12, 2011 11:45 am

I don’t really care that Boehner won’t support the King bill, which I find pretty ridiculous. But if legislation that comes from the Republican side can’t even get past the introductory stage, I don’t see what hope there is for Democratic bills.

Early Morning Swim: Patrick Murphy and Rachel Maddow Discuss DADT Vote

By: Blue Texan Thursday December 16, 2010 4:43 am

Wonder what Willard, Huck and the Quitter are going to say after it passes in the Senate — since they all think gays in the military should stay in the closet.

In Tax Deal with GOP, Obama Didn’t Win as Many Concessions as Advertised

By: Jon Walker Friday December 10, 2010 2:15 pm

President Obama seems remarkably proud of himself for the many “concessions” he won from Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as part of their deal to extend all the Bush tax cuts for two years. Yet, it seems almost all of the “concessions” Obama claims to have won were ideas actually promoted by Republicans. The amount of money allocated for things Obama wanted that didn’t have bipartisan support is much smaller.

Early Morning Swim: Economist Simon Johnson Says Tax Cut Deal Irresponsible on Rachel Maddow

By: Blue Texan Wednesday December 8, 2010 4:41 am

It appears the Democrats in Congress are tired of playing along with Obama’s view of “bipartisan.”

Catfood Commission: Is Simpson an Obama-Appointed Bully or Sexist?

By: Jon Walker Friday November 26, 2010 1:30 pm

I could care less about Simpson behavior if it wasn’t for the fact that President Obama appointed him co-chair of the bipartisan President’s Deficit Commission. It’s disconcerting that Obama tolerates this sexist behavior. Why would he appoint Simpson and stay silent as Simpson used the perch Obama gave him to lash out in such a childish manner and pointedly against women?

Tribalism Fuels Outrage Outrage and Backlash Backlash over TSA Gate-Gate

By: Gregg Levine Wednesday November 24, 2010 1:45 pm

Ignoring the anger and demonizing the angry does not service liberty or security, and it doesn’t do much for the causes of progressives or the Democratic Party, either.

Late Night: Pouting Baby is Happy the Tea Partiers Lost

By: Jim White Thursday November 4, 2010 8:00 pm

I’m not pouting today! I’m happy because the mean Tea Party people lost most of their elections. I saw this article yesterday morning that told me less than a third of them won.

And the Bad Advice Rolls On: Rendell Suggests “Imperfect” Powell for Obama CoS

By: Teddy Partridge Wednesday November 3, 2010 6:59 am

There are probably worse ideas for White House Chief of Staff, but I gagged on my homemade soup when outgoing Pennsylvania Governor Fast Eddie Rendell suggested that Barack Obama choose Colin Powell as his Chief of Staff.

Rendell, on Maddow, Reiterates Party’s “Campaign”: Vote for Democrats or I’ll Kill You

By: Gregg Levine Thursday September 23, 2010 9:30 am

For Democratic leaders, threatening unenthusiastic voters with vague pictures of doom and gloom, when much of what the voters see right now is already pretty gloomy, is not going to “wake up” very many of the rank and file. Promising little else in terms of benefits if Democrats stay in power—little beyond “there’s more to do”—does not provide enough positive motivation to engender enthusiasm.
