Great news from our friends at Law Enforcement Against Prohibition: the National Black Police Association, a 38-year-old advocacy group for African American law enforcement professionals, has endorsed Prop 19, California’s marijuana legalization initiative.

The Northern California council of the ILWU, otherwise known as the Longshoremen, announced its support for Prop 19, California’s marijuana legalization initiative. The 25,000-member council cited the extraordinary “waste” of money and lives in the war on marijuana, including marijuana prohibition’s disproportionate impact “on the backs of workers, poor people, and people of color.”

This weekend the California Democratic Party’s executive board will decide if the party should endorse Proposition 19, the state’s ballot initiative for marijuana legalization. No matter what the party delegates voting this weekend think about the merits of the initiative, they should vote to endorse Prop 19. Here’s why.
