The White House obsession with criticizing the “professional left” comes from one harsh truth: that the left has been right on major issues from health care to the stimulus.

I know. It almost never pays to read one of MoDo’s columns seriously. But enough good lefties are pointing to this one approvingly, I thought I’d do them the favor of pointing out how typically stupid it is.

Splitting the baby here, Maureen thinks Bobby Gibbs needs to be promoted, not fired, since he’s always wanted to be a counselor to the president, bonding as they did during the campaign over sports and missing their families.

So let me see if I have this straight: The White House’s official spokesman criticizes “the professional left” for pointing out that Obama has broken his promises on the public option, Medicare drug reimportation and price negotiation, EFCA, DADT, closing Gitmo, restoring government transparency and respect for the Constitution, challenging “the broken system in Washington” and, arguably, immigration and climate reform… and then tells us that Obama wants us to push for change and “hold him accountable”?

had the JournoList set fan out and tell everyone the Bernie Sanders amendment to the health care bill was the first step toward single payer?

Good times.

I saw Bobby Gibbs on television yesterday and I don’t understand what he was saying. He was really mad at a lot of people who want to make things better for everyone.

Dude. Really. You need to quit talking smack, sit up and pay attention. You lost my vote last week and it won’t be the first time, either.

With the public’s approval ratings of Congress at near-historic lows and not budging, it’s hard to see how this could be the fault of a couple of bloggers nobody has heard of. More likely, it’s the result of constituencies who aren’t happy with symbolic gestures while the government’s priority is to battle for the dollars of big corporate donors.

According to Gallup, Obama’s approval ratings among Hispanics has dropped 20 points this year. They note that “the two major drops in Hispanics’ approval of Obama this year — in February and May — coincide with two periods when the president was under fire for not doing enough to promote comprehensive immigration reform in Congress.”

They are employees of mine and on my payroll, but I am not their boss, I am Obama’s boss and it annoys me that his employee has insulted mine, especially when their primary goal is for President Obama’s success.

Gibbs, with his contempt for the “Canadian health care system,” is merely reflecting the attitude of a White House that marched into the health care debate committed to giving corporate “stakeholders” everything they wanted in exchange for campaign donations to Democrats.
