This is my story of getting an abortion in Texas, of my rights being exercised. Even with the laws in place to convince me otherwise, I still made the right decision no matter how much it hurt. I believe I have the right to go through this painful experience without paternalistic intervention “for my own good” as I am solely responsible for myself and my body.

Among the widening panoply of strategies being deployed to restrict U.S. abortion rights—ostensibly in the interest of protecting women—is the relatively recent push to prohibit the performance of abortions for the purpose of sex selection. Sex-selective abortion is widespread in certain countries, especially those in East and South Asia, where an inordinately high social value is placed on having male over female children. There is some evidence—although limited and inconclusive—to suggest that the practice may also occur among Asian communities in the United States.

The Komen Race for the Cure in the District of Columbia is one of the nation’s largest, with as many as 60,000 runners in past years. This year, in the wake of the Komen Foundation’s disastrous attack on Planned Parenthood following their hiring of a failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate and Palin acolyte, registration for the run is down 40%.

Almost as odd as an American President endorsing the right of same-sex couples to marry today, was the sight of a Republican member of Congress holding a press conference to announce legislation to guarantee funding of Planned Parenthood. But that happened today as well.

I don’t know that there will BE a Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure for much longer, but let the record show that they have been forced into a complete reversal on their high-profile effort to defund Planned Parenthood. This exposed the right-wing tendency inside the foundation’s leadership, appalling much of their membership.

The arrest made in the bombing of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wisconsin has led to federal charges against the suspect. He has a significant criminal record and a possible history of anti-abortion protests, according to local authorities. He may have participated in demonstrations against this particular Planned Parenthood office. His prior arrests are unrelated to any anti-abortion activity.

A man has been arrested in connection with the bombing of a Planned Parenthood office in Wisconsin over the weekend. Local authorities in Grand Chute, Wisconsin made the arrest last night. No formal charges have been filed yet.

A homemade bomb struck a Planned Parenthood office in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, on Sunday night. According to a local news report, the perpetrator placed the bomb on a window sill, which started a small fire when it exploded. There are no reports of injuries, but the terrorist implications are profound.
