Chris Christie, New Jersey’s increasingly unpopular right-wing governor, is a big believer in small government and austerity. Just not for him.

To the Village, Mitch Daniels (R-IN) is a Very Serious “Grown-Up” Republican — but he sure sounded like a WATB on NPR this morning.

From Ronald Reagan, who tripled the national debt, to George W. Bush, who turned a record surplus into a record deficit, you just can’t trust Republicans with money.

Figures. This is a guy who requires his staffers to read Atlas Shrugged, and we now know that Ayn Rand was a big welfare queen herself.

For the past 2 years, wingnut pundits have been telling us how awesome Texas’ economy is under our Republican rulers. Never mind that Rick Perry was papering over our fiscal problems with socialism federal stimulus money — the narrative was that low taxes and low regulations are the answer to everything.

The state of Texas is a gargantuan right-wing policy laboratory, spewing noxious governing ideas across the country just like our refineries pollute the air. We’ve had a Republican governor since 1995 and the Republicans have controlled the both houses of our state legislature for the past decade — and recently won a super-majority in the House. The result? One of the highest poverty rates in the United States to go with a massive budget deficit.

On the other hand, John Boehner is cutting back on the House’s bottled water, so maybe that will be enough to appease the teahadists.

With Republicans, it’s always austerity for thee — not for me.

These are the same idiots who just enthusiastically put $1T in tax cuts on the country’s credit card.
