National vodka repository Peggy Noonan who once wrote some Hillary Clinton fanfic (“Assembling her case, Noonan repeatedly uses a technique that increases drama at the price of credibility: invented scenes“) is auditioning to write the screenplay for NBC’s Hillary!: The Coronationing.

You know things are really going bad for a campaign when weeks before the election top media figures start writing about it as if it were already lost or is destined to lose unless it radically changes. This week featured several pre-obituaries about the Romney campaign.

How did it come to be that what once was the Party of Lincoln is now the Party of David Duke and Strom Thurmond? It was a simple business calculation — Corporate America and rich people in general wanted to get out of paying the taxes needed to sustain our societal infrastructure, and they figured the best way to do that was to manipulate race hatreds among whites in order to convince them that societal infrastructure helped black people more than white people.
It succeeded very well in cutting the taxes on the rich and on corporations, but that success came at the price of poisoning the minds of the Republicans, from the lowliest grunt worker to elite-level opinion controllers like Noonan and Carlson, with the deep-set sickness of bigotry.

Yeah, I know — I can’t help myself. But look, I would’ve ignored this mostly useless Nooners piece had she not written this about the Republicans’ 2012 crop of circus geeks and snake handlers.

A government that is the solution, not the problem — like the one you promised and delivered for so many of my dead friends.

You have no idea how much it kills me to write this: she nailed it.

It has been awhile since Our Lady of The Magical Dolphins, Peggy Noonan, has graced these, well, not pages, so probably your computer screen or maybe cellphone or whatever electronic geegaw you use to for that internet thingy. But Peggy is back and making the case that “the media” (which she is not a member of despite her WSJ column and the teevee appearances) is going to seduce and have its way with the 2010 class of Young Idealistic Republican freshmen like they were naive small-town girls fresh off the bus in Hollywood.

She’s just recycling trash now. A couple years ago, Nooners had a column titled “The End of Placeness” in which she asked, “OK, quick, close your eyes. Where is Barack Obama from?” Two years later, apparently, it’s still Obama’s “otherness” that’s tripping him up.
