Late Night: Joan Jett To SeaWorld: Cease and Desist on “I Love Rock N Roll”

It’s Blackfish backlash. The film, which documents what former trainers call abusive treatment of orcas, has raised awareness of SeaWorld and other marine parks’ practices. Gothamist reports that since the film’s release, Heart, Willie Nelson, and Barenaked Ladies all canceled their upcoming shows at Sea World’s Orlando park.

February 24, 2010, the orca Tilikum killed trainer Dawn Brancheau at Seaworld Orlando, and this was the third person he killed. Why is he still being used in shows? More importantly, why is he even in captivity at all? I could hardly watch the trailer it’s all so horrific, but it is a story that has to be told.

Who the fuck rolls out a brand-new operation on fucking ELECTION DAY? Who does this? This is the world’s most easily preventable clusterfuck, and they managed not to prevent it. Was there nobody in the room screaming that “let’s take a bash at this and see if it works, Biff” is a terrible way to handle the days when things matter?
