When Democrats killed the public option several attempts were made to create face saving “alternatives.” Two actual made it into the Affordable Care Act, the CO-OP provision and “multi-state plans” overseen by the Office of Personal Management. As the law is set to be implemented it is growing abundantly clear neither will provide much benefit.

The Senate Democrats had a conference call with reporters to extol all the great “improvements” they have made to the bill. They listed three improvements they wanted to talk about.

So I’m frantically trying to read the manager’s amendment (turn on CSPAN-2 and you can follow along yourself) and all the supplementary information that’s out there on just what’s now in this health care bill, and here’s what I’ve got so far…

Thats right, Lieberman, the biggest champion of the health insurance industry in the Senate, will chair the committee that oversees this “alternative” to the public option.
