Next Open Enrollment Period Moved to After the Election

Originally the open enrollment period for 2015 was supposed to start Oct 15th of 2014 and end December 7th. The Obama administration today announced they pushed back the start to November 15th and end January 15th (2016). This move just happens to put the date past the mid-term elections. This means many people will not be looking at their new 2015 premiums until after they vote.

Administration Will Probably Delay Individual Mandate for a Few Months, Just Don’t Call it a Delay

By: Monday October 21, 2013 1:45 pm

At issue is the fact that open enrollment doesn’t end until March 31st but if you don’t sign up for insurance by February 15th you will be hit with the individual mandate penalty. This means you can sign up for insurance during the open enrollment period and still be penalized for not getting insurance soon enough.

This is an idiotic way to run the individual mandate.
