La Figa Holiday Gift Guide: Celebrate Krampus with Community-Focused and Socially Conscious-Themed Gifts

By: Friday December 14, 2012 2:50 pm

Gifts should reflect the giver’s awareness of recipient, and carry a bit of the giver’s personality. Practical, thoughtful, and thought-provoking are also important attributes. And because this is Firedoglake, a healthy dose of social consciousness never hurts.

Top of my list: FDL’s Free Bradley Manning t-shirt (there’s also an awesome sweatshirt). I ordered one for a friend as a Thanksgiving gift, and he loved it, and I have one myself. The cotton is soft, the design is super cool, and you’re helping to support Manning’s trial coverage and activism.

Want to give a group gift, say for the whole family or your office? Occupy Sandy desperately needs Tyvek suits to protect those who are cleaning up mold damage in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. Or consider supplying Occupy with the FDL Occupy Supply items.

The mainstream media is busy painting Occupy as dead meanwhile Occupiers are continuing the fight for social and economic justice on all fronts. Occupy Philadelphia has been organizing for the Occupy National Gathering in Philadelphia since October, and now only a few weeks away, everyone is gearing up for an action packed week in Philly. Nate Kleinman who has been a major part of the organizing process joined us for a National Gathering Presentation to discuss the process used to create this sure-to-be historic event.

Thursda,y in two separate actions, several hundred people participated in a march organized by Good Jobs LA, with folks from Occupy LA, SEIU and citizens joining in as part of a general day of action to protest police actions in New York and elsewhere; planned arrests went off without a hitch. Later in the afternoon, a large group from Occupy LA marched back to the Bank of America branch and some folks were arrested. There was no violence in either action.

Over the past week, I have been organizing what is being called my “OccupySupply Shop.” I have neatly organized all the supplies that have come in, minus around 250 blankets, that just won’t fit anywhere. Those are getting shipped out quickly.

Introducing the #OccupySupply Fund

By: Friday October 21, 2011 1:39 pm

I’m really excited to announce the Occupy Supply Fund, a new effort at FDL to truly support the thousands of Occupiers protesting economic injustice and inequality across the country.

100% of donations to the Occupy Supply Fund will be used to purchase and distribute the supplies that occupations have requested. We want to do everything we can to help these demonstrators prepare for the winter and stay in the streets as long as possible.

We’re starting with Occupy DC, and Ryan and Jane will be delivering the items on their list this Sunday, October 23rd. Next week we’ll be taking the Occupy Supply Fund on the road as Kevin Gosztola begins visiting various occupations in the Mid West as part of his continuing live coverage of the movement.
