Occupy the Blog!

By: Sunday March 11, 2012 7:00 pm

Wow! It has been nearly three weeks since the last Occupy the Blog! diary. While we have reached the doldrums of the winter, the Occupations around the country are still performing their activities, big and small, and making an impact on the world.

Please DONATE to the Occupy Supply fund if you can. It is donations from people like you that allows Occupy Supply to help the Occupations survive the cold.

We’ve received a few diaries in the last week but we’ve also gotten some great pictures and a couple of nice videos from folks.

One Windy Night at Occupy Erie

By: Saturday February 11, 2012 12:24 pm

When this movement started in New York City I felt something in me spark. I had always known that there was something wrong with the way the country was being run, especially after watching the stock market crash in 2008. I started researching more into what Occupy Wall Street was doing, why they were protesting, and finally knew I had found my answer. I was so happy when I found that there were others that felt the same way as i did about the state of affairs in our country, even around the world. In the first few weeks, I watched the OWS livestream and watched as the four women got pepper sprayed. I watched many of their actions, and even from home, I felt my heart sink because I couldn’t be a part of it, though I knew with everything that I saw that I wanted to be there with them. Then I found Occupy Erie on facebook. There it was, the calling that I had been waiting for.

Occupy Erie: Lake Effect Snow Warning

By: Tuesday January 3, 2012 7:00 pm

Some of my fellow Occupiers are praying to the gods for a heavy snowfall here in town. They have been planning on building an igloo-like shelter in Perry’s Square, near the Gazebo. While the City has been right there every morning after we have tried to protect ourselves with shelter of some sort, there is no law against building snow people or snow forts in the park. So we plan to build some sort of weather protection that way. So far we don’t have enough here but we are still hopeful.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated to Occupy Supply and kept the supply pipeline flowing. I know the supplies you’ve donated have kept more than one occupation going when the forces urging them to shut down were otherwise overwhelming. What a great way to start the New Year.

#OccupySupply: Erie Still Strong After 7 Raids!

By: Monday December 26, 2011 4:00 pm

Occupy Supply is making a difference.

Occupy Erie has faced 7 devastating raids but refuses to quit, thanks in-part to the tireless support of the Firedoglake community. Our liaison Mark H. wrote in a post last week how important support from OccupySupply has been. If they won’t give up, we won’t give up on them. Can you help?

Occupy Erie: Devolving Conditions, Evolving Spirit

By: Friday December 23, 2011 8:00 am

While none have suffered at the hands of police, all have felt the arrival of General Winter, Joseph Stalin’s savior during World War II. And General Winter knows the Erie battlefield well. We hope the lawyer can help figure a way for us to be able to survive the repeated barrages of sub-zero cold, snow, ice and gale force winds that are the artillery of General Winter. So far, our only help here has come from Occupy Supply.

And what a great amount of help it has been! While the supplies sent have been greatly welcomed, the knowledge that this front in the Occupy Movement is not forgotten is a gift that warms us like the summer sun. Each time the City strips us of our weather protection, they harden our resolve to stay. Yet the less we have to defeat those attacks by General Winter, the more likely we are to suffer attrition.

Union made OccupySupply jackets keeping Keith Reide & many of the other occupiers in this Erie Times-News video report warm.
