Sandy Hook: The Promise

It has been a little over a month since the Sandy Hook shootings, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about the 26 lives lost that day. Each day as I step foot into my workplace, my mind almost immediately goes to Connecticut, and I think of that horrible day.

Unusual, you may ask? Not if you know that my workplace is an elementary school.

While all the major media outlets were carrying news about Rep. Weiner’s penis, the House adopted projected Agriculture Budget cuts that will seriously diminish the U.S. support for women and children if they prevail. Although there were several – well, approaching 20 – members of the right who declined to add their vote, the measure passed with one Dem. joining in the irresponsible measure to reduce spending on needy for nutrition, by support of farmers that contribute their products and are repaid.

Wingers Going after the Babies

Proposed $47 million cuts in the program of nutrition for Women, Infants and Children will make it that more difficult for pregnant women and small children, literally, to survive. These cuts are extended by Pentagon spending increases.

Cantor to Joplin: Drop Dead

Eric Cantor is trending on Twitter right now, and it’s for a comment he made about the tornado that killed at least 116 people in Joplin, Missouri. Cantor, merely following established conservative ideology, made the statement that no emergency relief for Joplin would pass the House without corresponding cuts elsewhere.

How Unemployment Can Make You Sick

The usual suspects always make the structural argument because they just don’t believe in fiscal policy and the normal means of stimulating investment and consumption. And I think it’s important to understand the fate to which that consigns 15 million unemployed Americans.
