The ghost of the 2008 candidate Barack Obama haunted Netroots Nation 2012 in Providence, Rhode Island. He hovered over every panel — at least the 10 or so panels I attended — and pervaded the general assemblies and closing session in which Van Jones gave the final pitch for progressives not to give up.

I was so fortunate to be able to personally thank NAACP President and CEO Ben Jealous today at Netroots Nation today for his long-time leadership on marriage equality that resulted in the civil rights organization’s recent public statement for marriage equality. Thank you Ben (and the rest of the NAACP board)!

Today at the second day of Netroots Nation convention in Providence, Rhode Island, there were all kinds of panels to attend and films and presentations to watch — and they all seemed to have the same common theme: That Americans need to start working together instead of going for each others’ jugulars with red-white-and-blue tooth and claw.
