Republican Senatorial Candidates From Massachusetts Debate DOMA

The three Massachusetts Republicans vying for the Bay State’s open U.S. Senate seat held their first debate on Wednesday night. Candidates Mike Sullivan, Dan Winslow and Gabriel Gomez were asked to give their views on two marriage-related questions:

-Is the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) constitutional?
-Should states have the right to maintain discriminatory marriage laws?

Five candidates — two Democrats and three Republicans — are vying for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts vacated by John Kerry. All of these candidates support marriage equality except Mike Sullivan, a Republican, who thinks that gays should be barred from civil marriage.

Today, it’s my honor to turn this space to Sheet Metal Workers (SMWIA) General President Mike Sullivan, leader of one of the first unions to publicly state the union is pulling all support from the Blue Dogs because of their efforts to kill real health care reform.

Remember last November? I still do.

I remember the pride I felt watching President-elect Obama and his family standing on that stage in Chicago, bolstered by the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans and the promise of change finally coming to our nation.
