Frank Vennes, whose son Denley claims (apparently truthfully) to have been a White House intern during the George W. Bush administration, and who could count Michele Bachmann among his high-powered friends, has now gone back to prison, possibly for the last time, because of Tom Petters and his Ponzi scheme.

As I watched the first tiny peep of congressional rebellion against the odious, authoritarian policies that have swamped America since The Day That Changed Everything narrowly defeated in the House yesterday, I was reminded of the endlessly repeated, tinny refrain of those dark days, “They hate us for our freedom.” According to such preschool logic, the “Patriot Act,” passed nearly unanimously a few weeks later, should have fixed that once and for all.

John McCain, the Republican Senator from Arizona and the bringer of the Palin, went to Syria this past week. He met with the “good” rebels who want to overthrow Bashar al-Assad and then become America’s bestest friends once they take over.
Senator McCain says we can identify the “good” rebels and then arm them. He has a point…what could possibly go wrong with a plan to give radicalized Muslims a bunch of weapons with which they can overthrow a repressive secular regime that is backed by the Russians who have propped up the secular regime with gifts of weapons and money?

Suddenly, the soon to have more free-time on her hands has a good reason to come to Iowa again.

Let’s put it this way: If Michele Bachmann really wasn’t in electoral trouble against Jim Graves – who almost beat her last year in a CD that had been made even more Republican than before by the removal of Stillwater, and in a contest that the national Democrats ignored after the 2010 debacle – why did she start running ads two weeks ago, nearly eighteen months before the next election?

See, until fairly recently, Andy Parrish was as loyal to Michele Bachmann as a Republican can be loyal to anything outside of the Almighty Dollar. For him to cooperate in this way with the authorities makes me think that there’s got to be something big and juicy here — and I’m guessing that once they get that particular big-and-juicy thing nailed down, they want to build a bridge from that thing to some other big-and-juicy things: Frank Vennes and Tom Petters.

Less than a year ago, Michele Bachmann seemed to be the Golden Girl of the GOP and its Tea Party base. Now, she’s facing a primary challenger for next year.

You may have been wondering what Michele Bachmann has been up to ever since her too-close-for-comfort win over a challenger she outspent by more than twelve-to-one in a district that had just had its most liberal part (namely the city of Stillwater) removed. Then again, you may not have, but I’m going to tell you anyway.

As Greg Stricharchuk, editor in the business news section of the Chicago Tribune, noted of Mr. Bremer: “The fact that some people who commented said he should burn in hell and not rest in peace means he must have been doing something right. -30-”
