Ryan White, Kaci Hickox, and the Lessons We Still Haven’t Learned

As I have watched the unfolding story of Kaci Hickox in New England, I can’t help but feel as if I’ve seen this movie before. Does the name Ryan White ring a bell? How about Korematsu v. United States?

Yes, I’m old. But it’s the job of the old to remember these things, so that we don’t repeat them yet again.

Now get off my lawn.


It Gets Better, Musical Edition

As I watch the “It Gets Better” videos, I can’t help but remember one of the best concerts I ever attended – the gay a cappella group The Flirtations. The most powerful moment of an incredibly wonderful evening came near the end, as the Flirts sang a lullaby to the audience: “You can be anybody that you want to be, you can love whomever you will . . .”

It gets better. Especially when we hear — and sing — lullabys like that.
