Forcing Change in Big Media’s Pro-war Bias

By: Saturday February 28, 2015 6:00 pm

Today I want to suggest some other steps and some leverage methods to force the issue.

I discussed them and the research that led to them on Virtually Speaking with Jay Ackroyd. Feb, 26, 2015.

Today Digby wrote about Chris Hayes and Laura Ingram pointing out how the networks push war. Now, what to do to change it?

Following Lee Fang’s Nation article on retired generals pushing bombing without being identified. I dug into the process for getting those guests to get on the air. I spoke to news producers, show bookers, guests, corporate media execs, FCC and FTC lawyers. I spoke to corporate CFOs, institutional investors, hedge fund managers and media trackers.

After I understood the process, I asked, “Who or what has the power to change things?”

3 Easy Steps to Change the Media’s Views on War & Torture

By: Wednesday February 25, 2015 7:00 pm

These days I’m like Mr. Spock in the dark, parallel universe of Star Trek. I see our leadership going down the wrong path regarding the use of war and torture. It’s an illogical, fear-based path, and it’s presented as the only alternative.

Late Night: What’s The Value of TV Journalism? Analysis of Episode Two of The Newsroom

By: Wednesday November 26, 2014 8:00 pm

There was a scene in The Newsroom’s second episode this season where Charlie, the network president, explains to the two rich kids working on a hostile takeover that what the news division of ACN does and says is important. ACN, he explains, is like NBC and CNN, they are the face and voice of the parent corporation.

That really struck me. I liked it. Suddenly I was Fox Mulder quoting from the poster above my desk. “I want to believe.”

What Rush Limbaugh’s Attack on Activists Is Telling Us

By: Thursday September 25, 2014 6:47 am

Leslie Salzillo wrote a great diary that breaks down the ‘secret story’ that Rush Limbaugh’s crisis communications person wrote about the StopRush movement. Rush Limbaugh Must Be Terrified – He’s Releasing Secret ‘Facts’ About StopRush

Salzillo does a great job pointing out all the nonsense in the report. I want to point out to people why Rush is attacking activists now and how I view the attack as a gift to the community of people alerting advertisers.

Rush’s Report “The Hidden Story Behind Stop Rush” tells us what they are telling the distributors, radio stations and sales reps. That’s good news, activists can use that information to keep pushing.

Rove Knows What The Media Likes: ABC Radio’s Case Study

By: Thursday May 15, 2014 9:25 am

A week before Dr. Karl Rove’s comment about Hillary Clinton’s medical status some friends and I were discussing how the left doesn’t aggressively pursue certain media strategies. I responded with a rant about all the roadblocks that are in place or thrown up by organizations and individuals to block certain ideas. They might be happy to benefit from the results but don’t want to hire, pay for or provide legal and technical support for people who can pull it off. Then they see what Rove did and bemoan their inability to do the same.

Let’s Stop Letting Bundy Supporters Off the Hook

By: Thursday April 24, 2014 5:14 pm

Here is something I’d like everyone to notice, and I want you to think about different ways to handle this in the future.

When someone that the Right or the Left has embraced is caught doing or saying something bad the MSM go to the supporters and ask, “So, is he still your guy?” Depending on the offense, and the skill of the people being asked the question, the MSM often let them off the hook.

Crow Gets Two Cats to Fight or Care2 gets Microsoft to Attack Google on Privacy Violations

By: Thursday August 29, 2013 6:00 pm

There is an old saying, “Let’s you and him go fight.” Setting two corporations up to fight each other to get a result that you want is pretty clever. We aren’t the only species that thinks so. Here is a video of a crow prodding two cats to fight each other, for entertainment.

Is Jimmy Carter the Reincarnation of Eleanor Roosevelt? Exclusive Photo Proof!

By: Friday June 7, 2013 5:00 pm

I spotted this photo of Eleanor Roosevelt on her pistol permit for New York State. I noticed a similarity with Former President Jimmy Carter so I put his photo on the card next to her so you can see it too.

Her getting a pistol permit reminds me that some people hated her. Did they hate her for her ideas or just because she was a woman?

9 Questions the Press Won’t Ask About Cumulus vs. a Flaming Gasbag

By: Friday May 10, 2013 1:25 pm

Have you noticed the Cumulus v. Rush stories in the press lately? What makes me crazy is thinking about all the questions that could be asked of the distributors, media corporations and the people who have made money or spent money on right wing media. Sadly they won’t be asked, although if they were asked I suspect the answers would range from, “No comment.” to, “We don’t have to tell you nothin’ Poindexter” and include lots of, ” We are a private company! Now drop and give me 20 stories on missing white women!”
