There were two reasons to think the election was going to be closer than it was. The first was the only public pollster surveying the race, Public Policy Polling, had Sanford up by only one point but with momentum. Special elections with their unusual turnouts are traditionally very difficult to poll and last night’s was no exception. That is partly why no other pollsters even dared trying to poll the race.

Late Night FDL: The Onion, Come to Life |
| By: cocktailhag Thursday April 18, 2013 8:00 pm |
It’s funny, in the least funny of ways, how a week that began in unspeakable tragedy unfolded into one filled with so much absurdity and journalistic malpractice, along with a truly bizarre string of unrelated events, that the actual news was often so frankly guffaw-inducing that The Onion would have a hard time topping it.

Prop 8, DOMA, and South Carolina Cupcakes |

This has been a big week in both religious and legal circles. As the US Supreme Court took up Hollingsworth v Perry (the Prop 8 case) and US v Windsor (the DOMA case), the Jewish community began their celebration of Passover and Christians were in the midst of Holy Week preparations for Easter. But outside of the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court, the push for marriage equality continues to move forward. Deep in that liberal hotbed of South Carolina, a famous cupcake bakery is making more news with their icing-covered statements in favor of marriage equality, and the campaign twitter feed of SC-01 Democratic candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch agrees that “It’s not holy to hate.”
Now *that’s* a sermon.

Sunday Late Night: Dosh Garn It, That Smells Like Accountability! |

Let’s hope Kevin Garn’s so-far-remarkable step, as a GOP, of actually resigning his office wakes up our media. So that when the next pervert is revealed (and you know another one will be, perhaps soon) our wise media gatekeepers will say, “Hey, Kevin Garn resigned, shouldn’t you too?”
Our Wonderful Traditional Mainstream Media In Action |

You’d think that enabling the ambitions of Ahmad Chalabi — who as we’ve known for years was working hand-in-glove with Iran — to create a war that destroyed one nation, killed untold hundreds of thousands if not millions, and has seriously damaged America’s financial and moral standing, would be a mite worse of a crime than catting around on one’s spouse, even if the adulterer is an evil Democrat as opposed to nice Republican Mark Sanford. But maybe that’s just me.
