Mittens smoked in second debate by fact-checking, being held to the rules and his own foot-in-mouth

That was one weird town hall for Mitt Romney (transcript), as this one is was an easy win for Barack Obama. Mittens gave some really poor answers to some of the questions – try the epic #FAIL on gender pay equity — he continues to refuse to say whether he supported the Lily Ledbetter Act. How basic is it to support equal pay for equal work? Well, since Mittens wouldn’t say, he went off on a tangent about creating job opportunities for women in a bizarre statement:

Poor Barry Goldwater; he was just born too early. Much has been written about Goldwater’s historic wipeout in 1964; the conventional wisdom, which held for many years, was that America could only go so wingnut. Once a guy started to be associated, fairly or not, with the John Birch Society and unrepentant neoconfederates from the deep south, he would not only lose, but lose spectacularly, in the general election no matter the opponent.
