FL Sen: Crist Holds Steady, Dems Stuck in Third Place

By: Jon Walker Wednesday July 21, 2010 11:45 am

The latest PPP poll (PDF) shows Florida Gov. Charlie Crist holding on to his modest plurality in his independent bid for the United States Senate. Republican Marco Rubio comes in second, and the official Democrat is stuck in the teens.

Twenty-Two Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Pelosi’s Fake Budget ‘n’ Bombs Bill

By: Jane Hamsher Friday July 2, 2010 12:45 pm

Without consulting the progressives who voted her in as Speaker, Nancy Pelosi joined the Blue Dogs to come up with a brilliant plan to pass a rule saying they had passed a budget without actually troubling themselves to do so.

FL Sen: Kendrick Meek is Suddenly Pro-Choice?

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday June 23, 2010 9:15 am

Kendrick Meek is now saying that “when I become the nominee, the Democratic nominee, I will be the only pro-choice candidate on the ballot.”

It’s great to hear his enthusiasm for abortion rights, but I have to wonder where Meek’s commitment was last year when he joined with four pro-life Democrats to demand restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion services in the health care bill?

FL Sen: Crist Manages to Hold Lead for Now

By: Jon Walker Wednesday June 9, 2010 5:15 pm

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, running for Senate as an independent, holds a narrow lead in a three-way race. How he’ll fare depends partly on which Democrat will be his opponent. An Aug, 24 primary will decide that.

Tactical Voting: A Problem in the UK and the US

By: Jon Walker Wednesday May 5, 2010 7:00 pm

In the United Kingdom general election May 6, “tactical voting” has become a serious issue as prominent members of the Labour Party push for it as a way to “keep out the Tories.” It’s an issue in upcoming US elections, as well.

Tactical voting is voting for someone besides the candidate you would most want to see win. Normally it is used to stop the candidate you hate the most from winning, by voting for your second or even third choice.

In a press conference concluded just moments ago, Charlie Crist, the Governor of Florida, announced he would end his campaign for US Senate as a Republican and run with no party affiliation. By: David Dayen Wednesday April 28, 2010 12:45 pm

Tomorrow we will discover Charlie Crist’s decision on whether to leave the Republican Party and run for the US Senate as an independent. And apparently, he’s taken a look at the idea in a poll, and saw numbers he liked.

FL-Sen: Rubio, Florida GOP Under Federal Investigation

By: David Dayen Wednesday April 21, 2010 6:26 am

The Florida Republican Party faces a criminal investigation from the IRS, FBI and the US Attorney’s office over party-issued American Express card spending. And among the members of the state GOP implicated is none other than Marco Rubio.

To be sure, Charlie Crist is at most one step removed from this mess – Jim Greer was a top ally. But Rubio’s direct involvement has to weigh on his chances in the US Senate race. Rubio has a squeaky-clean, rock-ribbed conservative image that, when placed against this lavish personal spending and potential concealment, does not match.
