It is starting to look more and more likely that actress Ashley Judd will run against Mitch McConnell (R) for the Kentucky Senate seat next year. Democratic John Yarmuth, who represents Kentucky’s third congressional district, seems pretty convinced she will run and is laying the groundwork needed for a serious campaign.

Over at Huffington Post, there’s a blaring headline in two, count ‘em, two different columns from resident Villager, er, “Editorial Director,” Howard Fineman, about how improbably wonderful Mitch McConnell is up close and personal. With a mixture of dread and morbid curiosity, I clicked on it, and let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised; in just a few short paragraphs, which in the hands of a more able writer could have been reduced to a drunken tweet, Fineman’s starstruck paean to that cantankerous old biddy beautifully summed up everything that is wrong with Washington, and our politics.

The number of contests close enough to watch continues to grow daily. Updates today on RI-01, CT-04, CT-05, IN-02, and NC-02.

The number of contests up in the air continues to grow: As a result of new polling, I’m adding two close races to the list, FL-25 and KY-03.
Several other races have also been updated to reflect new information. Overall, the updates are a mixed bag, but, on net, I would say today’s news is slightly positive for Democrats.

Tonight is a primary night with elections in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Oregon. The big races are the contested Senate primaries in KY, PA and AR, and the special election in PA-12 Congressional district to replace Democrat John Murtha.
