Joe Lieberman Bravely Puts Brakes on Stalled Nukes

By: Scarecrow Sunday March 13, 2011 4:01 pm

According to the ever thoughtful Joe Lieberman, the US should “put the brakes” on all the new nuclear power plants we’re not building. That’s what he told CBS’s Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation.

Patriot Act Extension Whittled Down to Three Months; Senate to Vote Tonight

By: David Dayen Tuesday February 15, 2011 4:30 pm

When the House passed a 10-month extension of key provisions of the Patriot Act last night, it was assumed that the Senate would follow suit quickly. And they will vote on the measure tonight. However, they will narrow the extension to three months, in a move with bipartisan support.

Lieberman to Retire in 2012

By: Ryan Cook Tuesday January 18, 2011 3:30 pm

This morning Susan Bysiewicz announced to CT reporters that she would be a contender in the 2012 CT Senate race. While matching her up against Joe Lieberman (I-CT) we failed to question why she would be announcing this news now, why so early? She may have had a bit of knowledge not disclosed to the public. Lieberman will be hosting a supporter event at the Marriott hotel in his hometown of Stamford, CT tomorrow at 12:30 pm EST to announce his plans to either run for a 5th term or to call it quits. Kevin Rennie of Daily Ructions, a CT base blog predicts that Lieberman will announce his retirement from the US Senate. Tim Tagaris, the New Media Director for SEIU, and former new media director for likely 2012 Senate candidate Chris Murphy (CT-5), is up in arms, looking forward to the opportunity of ousting the often flip-flopping independent. Tagaris tweets today:

“Make no mistake, if Joe Lieberman decides not to run, it wasn’t his decision – the people of Connecticut decided for him.” and

“I will be running a Draft Lieberman movement if he announces his intent to retire tomorrow.”

How To Get Republicans To Yes On Immigration Reform

By: Eli Saturday December 11, 2010 7:00 pm

I think we finally have a hook to get immigration reform passed! Sarah Palin and Joe Lieberman have accidentally shown us the way forward with their very rational and well-informed responses to Wikileaks’ Cowardly Attack On The Very Foundations Of Our Civilization.

Standalone DADT Repeal Bill Readied

By: David Dayen Thursday December 9, 2010 4:15 pm

Senate leadership has planned a vote on a free-standing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell legislative repeal, unencumbered by the defense authorization bill, to come to the floor sometime in the lame duck session, perhaps next week. Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins are co-sponsoring the bill, which will have the same language as what was in the defense authorization bill. Harry Reid will co-sponsor as well, and they will use Rule 14 to bypass the Senate Armed Services Committee and bring it directly to the floor.

Lieberman Wants New York Times Investigated for Wikileaks Releases

By: David Dayen Tuesday December 7, 2010 1:00 pm

New York Times editor Bill Keller, explains how his organization checked with the US government before publishing any of the Wikileaks State Department cables, redacted all sensitive names from publication at the recommendation of the government, and basically did everything they could in advance to clear the release with the Administration. Carne Ross, the British Ambassador, “found it extraordinary” that the NYT would clear their releases with the US government.

And now, for their trouble, the Times has put themselves in the crosshairs of Joe Lieberman, the head of the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

Joe Lieberman Threatens to Put Dexter Filkins, Judy Miller in Jail to Fearmonger over Wikileaks

By: emptywheel Friday December 3, 2010 8:32 am

Joe Lieberman has introduced what he claims to be a law targeted at WikiLeaks. Problem is, not only would it not endanger WikiLeaks (as far as we know), but it would put both good and bad journalists in jail.
