Why Does the Right Wing Hate Anti-Government Preaching?

By: Saturday May 19, 2012 9:00 am

Once upon a time, a certain preacher was attacked for preaching a strong and vivid sermon against confusing God and Government. For this, he was roundly attacked by the right wing.

Today, interestingly enough, that very same right wing is preaching against trusting in government over God, against a government that they claim is trying to take over their religious beliefs.

Why does the right wing hate Jeremiah Wright? His famous sermon is speaking their language, after all. I guess their problem with Wright isn’t really his message. I wonder what it could be . . .

$10 Million Could Be Spent on Rev. Wright Attacks

By: Thursday May 17, 2012 8:40 am

A recent court ruling resulted in a flood of campaign spending by a very small group of ultra rich people into our elections and the latest example could be a Super PAC bankrolled by Joe Ricketts, the founder of TD Ameritrade. FDL Book Salon Welcomes Bill Moyers, Bill Moyers Journal: The Conversation Continues

By: Saturday May 21, 2011 1:59 pm

Bill Moyers easily ranks as one of America’s greatest journalists. For decades, he has covered vital stories most others ignored, fearlessly defying orthodoxies and amplifying viewpoints that were excluded in most establishment venues. His coverage of the 2008 financial crisis provided the earliest look at how reckless and criminal was Wall Street’s conduct and how steadfast was the resolve of the subservient political class to shield it from accountability. His commentary on how the media suppresses dissenting views that fall outside of the bipartisan consensus — as exemplified by this recent interview with Tavis Smiley — makes him one of the most astute media critics in the nation. And his 2007 examination of the media’s role in selling the Iraq War — “Buying the War” — was the first and still-best examination of that largely ignored topic.

“Vaya Con Dios” and Care of the Soul

By: Sunday December 19, 2010 9:30 am

The day I arrived on earth back in September, 1953, the number one song in America was Les Paul and Mary Ford’s “Vaya Con Dios.” Go With God? Go? Hell, I’d just gotten here. Where was I supposed to go? A month earlier, the Soviet Union helped put the boom in Baby Boomer by exploding [...]

By: Friday March 12, 2010 4:15 pm

Glenn Beck’s rant last week wasn’t an attack on Christians in general, but part of a conversation between Roman Catholic bishops and their potential political allies in evangelical and LDS circles, saying “If you want to ally yourself with the LDS and evangelicals, you better clean up your own house first and deal with all those lefty peace-and-justice priests. We don’t need allies like that.”

Where’s Liddy? Tell Elizabeth Dole To Stop Racist Attack Ads Against Barack Obama

By: Monday April 28, 2008 12:06 pm

Elizabeth Dole is the most senior member of the North Carolina GOP, and she has the power to stop the racist attack ads against Obama that are running there. But in an election year when she’s widely accused of having “gone Washington,” she’s AWOL on yet another North Carolina issue.

We’re gong to be working with North Carolina bloggers (including Pam Spaulding) to deliver a petition to Dole’s office, telling her to write the North Carolina GOP and make it stop. You can cosign here.
