Al Jazeera English is broadcasting a call from a Dr. Ghassan of the Salmaniya hospital who calls desperately for help saying the hospital is full and overwhelmed, “almost impossible to cope,” that the number of casualties is “uncountable” and that it is “as if we are in a war.” A second doctor reported that ambulances are blocked from entering the area to help the wounded and that there are many, many there.

The military has been trying to move protesters out of the square, saying they are trying to restore normalcy.

Here at home, we should be studying these activists, learning from them and their organizing strategies, for, as Micah Sifry noted today on twitter: “Egypt shows what might have happened had the young people who supported Obama used the internet to empower themselves instead of him.” If we pay attention, maybe we will have a second chance, maybe we will find our voices and join them.
