Poll: In Picking a President, the Economy and Jobs Trump Everything

A New Washington Post/ABC News poll asked Americans “What is the single most important issue in your choice for president?” The poll found that the economy or jobs dominated the responses with 51 percent. No other issue came close to breaking double digits.

Today’s issue of Louisville, Kentucky’s Courier-Journal has a front page article that helpfully explains many jobs in the area must be filled by illegal immigrants because no American has applied for them.

Our crack 9th Circuit Judge Jay Bybee played word games so as to consider bottles of water left for migrants traversing the Arizona desert “litter” even if they weren’t “garbage.”

Mind you, when the issue was whether waterboarding someone constituted prolonged mental harm, Bybee was not really a stickler for precise meanings.

Under current law, legal immigrants are subject to a 5-year waiting period before accessing programs like Medicaid. The Senate bill did not alter this feature of our health care system. But Robert Menendez has exacted a concession from Harry Reid on the issue.
