Left Behind: Nic Cage Whores Himself Out

By: Sunday September 1, 2013 12:30 pm

Times must still be tough for Nic Cage. He’s offered himself up to God the Left Behind movie series, and it’s really kinda gross. Well, maybe there are some gross points involved, though I wouldn’t hold my breath on the Academy Award-winning actor getting rich off those.

Ender’s Game: Orson Scott Card Gets Even Crazier, More Hateful

By: Thursday August 15, 2013 11:45 am

Orson Scott Card is the homo-hatin’ author of Ender’s Game who is also a producer of and presumably profit-taker from the eponymous film due out in November from Lions Gate. He has proven himself to be an equal opportunist disliker of non-white people and a loony-toon nutter in this May 9, 2013 essay, originally published in something called The Rhinoceros Times. Card spins a paranoid (admitted) fantasy about Obama becoming a dictator.

SOPA Opera: La distruzione di Khanna

By: Saturday December 8, 2012 4:00 pm

Act 1: Delight

For the glory of Summer we are punished with Fall. So it was that on November 16th, 2012 the Republican Study Committee offered a bold proposal to reform America’s ridiculous copyright system titled Three Myths About Copyright Law and Where To Fix It. The contact and alleged driving force behind the document was Derek Khanna a staffer at the RSC.

The policy brief was nothing short of a full frontal double barreled blast at Copyright Trolls (also known as the entertainment industry).

Republicans Take Down Anti-Corporate Copyright Law Paper Within 24 Hours of Publication

By: Sunday November 18, 2012 6:45 am

One post-election question up for debate is where the Republican Party would go to try and capture the areas of the electorate they cannot penetrate – particularly minorities and the youth vote. The watered-down version of the DREAM Act suggested a policy path for reaching some segments of the minority electorate. And for about 24 hours this weekend, it looked like Republicans would make their pitch to the youth vote on copyright law.

Late on Friday, the Republican Study Committee, the far-right caucus in the House, put out a policy paper on copyright reform that really sought to upend traditional notions of the issue, which in the US really skews in favor of copyright holders.

Campaign for a Fair Settlement hopes to mobilize the 11 million underwater homeowners in America as a constituency that will be heard throughout the election. Some of those underwater homeowners will be at the protest tonight.

And provided that Los Angeles traffic patterns cooperate, I will be there as well. My Twitter feed is probably the best place to find quick updates from the protest tonight, which should kick off around 6pm Pacific time/9pm Eastern.

Just because you’re the President of the United States doesn’t mean you can just order a movie made based on your favorite book. Even if you’re pitching one of your biggest donors who also happens to be one of the biggest producers in Hollywood.

SOPA Markup Re-Scheduled for Wednesday

By: Monday December 19, 2011 9:00 am

When the House Judiciary Committee adjourned without a final vote on the Stop Online Piracy Act, the expectation was that they wouldn’t take up the matter again until next year. HJC Chairman Lamar Smith appeared to agree to allow technical experts give testimony on the implications of the bill to the Internet’s architecture, particularly the Domain Name System. But quietly, Smith announced a resumption of the markup for this Wednesday, at a time when Congress may not even be in session.
